Rainy Day Popcorn Projects

It's not hard for kids to get annoyed and worked up when the weather outdoors is dreary. In fact, you may even discover that you get somewhat bored yourself. If you are trapped indoors, it can be enjoyable to have some family time by planning a few fast craft projects. Even when you haven't got a lot of art supplies in the house, many times you can find everything you need in your own kitchen cupboard. If you can find a bag of popcorn that hasn't been popped, then you have enough supplies right there for a fun day for you and your kid. Here are a few great ideas for quick and easy crafts using popcorn.

Colorful Bean Baggies

Though they are not called "corn bags", you are still able to use popcorn as a replacement for beans in these entertaining little baggies. In reality, they can even be simpler to use than beans since they are smaller. Find some fun cloth scraps and stitch them together to make little bags. If you are being creative, you can make them in unique shapes, such as animals or cars. However , if you prefer to keep it simple you can just make plain squares, but make sure you leave roughly 2 inches open on one of the sides. Before you sew the bags, make sure the right sides of the cloth are facing each other, this way you are able to turn them right side facing out before you put the popcorn in them. After you have sewn the bags, dump your popcorn kernels into a large bowl. Your children can then fill the bags with the kernels. Using a funnel can make this job easier. After you have filled the bag about two thirds of the way, you can sew it shut. You can then put together a few fun games that can be played indoors, such as a contest to see who is able to toss the most bags in a box or bucket. Or you can play another tossing game with the bean bags, perhaps "Hot Potato". Don't forget to get some pictures of these fun memories that are being made, so that you can place them in some picture frames.

Creating Mosaic Masterpieces

If your popcorn is multi-colored, mosaic art is a great thing to create. Give your y women's jackets oungster a square of lightweight cardboard, for instance a piece of poster board. Then they can draw simple designs on the board as a guide for applying the popcorn. Coat each part of the design with white glue. Then while the glue is still fresh, apply the popcorn kernels to the cardboard. Put on different colors of the kernels to different parts of the picture until the whole design is covered. After drying, you could even put a few of these mosaics in picture frames, displaying them on the wall. Or you may even use the finished products as fun trivets for all of your hot pots and pans.

Popcorn Garlands And Jewelry

It does not have to be a holiday season for you and your kids to enjoy stringing popcorn. Pop a big bowl's worth of corn. Then give each kid a yarn needle threaded with quilting thread or a lightweight string. Then they will be able to start stringing the popcorn onto their strings, and they can also create variety by alternating with rings of dry cereal too if they want to. The garlands can be hung around your home in a decorative fashion. Or, create shorter strands, knotting the two ends together to make popcorn necklaces. Take a few pictures of your kids decked out in their popcorn jewelry creations, and display in picture frames.

So don't worry if you're out of things to do when the weather is bad. Your kids will love showing their crafty abilities with these fun and artistic popcorn crafts.
